Historical Note
Friday, 1 May 1981 was the second National Day of Action against the tour, organised nationally by Halt All Racist Tours (HART) to co-ordinate numerous smaller and local protest groups. The first National Day of Action had been on 5 December 1980. In Christchurch, four separate marches were organised from different points in the city (Riccarton, Sydenham, Lancaster Park and Merivale) to converge on Cathedral Square for a rally. Several groups were involved in organising the marches, including the Christchurch Coalition Against the Tour (CAT) and Women Against the Tour.
