The Belfast District Museum was operated from 2007 to 2013 on behalf of the Christchurch City Council by the Belfast District Museum Trust, and is adjacent to the historic Old Schoolmaster's House (built 1877) on the Kapuatohe Historic Reserve.
The museum (closed from earthquake damage in 2011) housed an extensive photograph collection plus objects from earlier days from the Belfast District. The Belfast district was known also as "Styx", and the district area includes Belfast, Northwood, Coutts Island, Ouruhia, and part of Redwood.
