Dancers from Melbourne at the Christchurch Hungarian Club
A group of dancers visiting from Melbourne performing for members of the Christchurch Hungarian Club at the Clubrooms on Hardy Street, New Brighton.
Historical Note
The Christchurch Hungarian Club was incorporated 5 August 1975. The Clubhouse at 11 Hardy Street was bought by members in June 1975; individuals paid off $50-$300 at a time over several years. Prior to buying the clubhouse they rented various rooms in Central Christchurch for events. 1956 Revolution day is a national holiday in Hungary on the 23 October. In New Zealand it is held on the closest Sunday. Almost of the founding members of the Christchurch Hungarian Club were refugees from 1956.
