Samadhi Buddhist Vihara was established under the leadership and guidance of Venerable Makuldeniye Somarathana Thero with the generous support of Sri Lankans and other Buddhist well-wishers living in Christchurch and Dunedin in 2002. Venerable Makuldeniye Somarathana Thero was ordained in Sri Lanka at the age of 12. After studying, practicing and teaching Buddhism in Sri Lanka, he started his journey overseas to propagate dhamma. Mainly visiting Australia and the United States, sharing his dhamma knowledge with the fellow Buddhist communities.
