Hanmer Springs Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Hanmer Springs Golden Jubilee was celebrated on Monday the 27th November 1933, commemorating the official opening of the baths in 1883. Festivities commenced the day prior with a combined church service held in the public grounds. Jubilee proceedings included the laying of a wreath at the Hanmer Memorial, a motor drive and morning tea at the State forests, tree planting in the Hanmer Domain, Hanmer Springs public school visit by Lord Bledisloe, official luncheon at The Lodge, Jubilee procession, a garden party at Queen Mary Hospital, and a band concert in the public grounds. The day concluded with the Jubilee Ball which was held in the Hanmer Hall. An emphasis throughout the day was the celebration and honouring of old identities of Hanmer Springs.
