High Street Church in 1859
Newspaper caption: The first Wesleyan Church in Christchurch was erected in High Street on a site given by Mr John Broughton. The opening services were conducted by the Rev J. Aldred, on April 16 (Easter Sunday) 1854. It was a building 35x20ft and cost upwards of £150. The second church of which a view is a given above was built at a cost of some £2000, and opened on December 25, 1859. The services were conducted by the Revs J. Buller and C. Fraser. At the time it was one of the finest buildings in Christchurch. This building and section was eventually disposed for between £5000 and £6000. The section was some 150ft frontage, and was situated between the premises of Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co. and Messrs Standish and Preece, High Street, Christchurch.
