Narrative of events for 1863.
The commentary includes: Construction of roads in North Canterbury; Lyttelton to Christchurch Railway; Backcountry drownings; Remodelling of Christchurch Volunteer Fire Brigade; Harvest of 1862-1863; Opening of Provincial Council by new Superintendent.

Historical Note
The Southern provinces almanac was published annually from 1853 to 1892. Christchurch City Libraries has a set covering the years 1863 to 1892. Originally the almanac covered a number of provinces, but from 1865 it concentrated on Canterbury.
