Twenty First Century

Ferry Road is a busy road that gets grid locked at peak hour during the week, as well as at the weekend when people head out to Sumner beach.

Post quake development

Some of the older buildings along Ferry Road were lost due to the earthquake, and have since been rebuilt.

Woolston Library was one of the earliest suburban libraries to open in Christchurch in 1871. The library survived until it was badly damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. After a team of volunteers recovered the books the building was demolished at the end of June 2011. A new library was built and opened in August 2018.
